Ok, so I have become completely hooked on Biggest Loser, cliche! But it's true. Seeing these people struggle and overcome weight loss is extremely inspiring. Here are men and women my weight, some lower and some higher (poor Michael), and I can look up to them. In fact, most episodes, I feel so guilty sitting on my butt watching them that I either start doing steps on my step stool or lift my little 5lb. hand weights and afterward do a full workout.
So what have I been doing with the weight loss? Not too terribly much. Start of March I managed to lose a couple inches in a week and a half, which was exciting, but I soon crashed afterwards. I though, obviously mistakenly, that since I was working out (a whole glorious 20-30 minutes most days), I could eat whatever. This included oreos and a pizza one night, which my poor stomach regretted not even an hour later. Obviously this tactic did not work and it was only through prayer that I fit into my wedding dress for bridal portraits the following week.
Since then it's been a struggle to figure out what to do next. I bought the Biggest Loser Wii game, which is kind of fun but I am paranoid about making loud thumping sounds and disturbing my neighbor the floor below me. So I do this in moderation and skip the jumping jacks. I did impress myself, though, in the weight loss yoga when I lifted all well over 200 pounds of me into a downward dog and, alternating and holding for 30 seconds each, I was able to do it on one leg. Of course, my arms and shoulders were killing me, but it was a nice, small accomplishment.
I have finally overcome my gym-phobia as well. Last week I decided that I just had to go to the gym and make it part of my routine. I could do more there than I could at home. Last week was more of a trial run and I lost 1/2 inch across my body and feel stronger already. Now this week I am trying out a weekly routine to see how I do. Monday, Wednesday, Friday I will do cardio or treadmill walking for 1 hour with the goal of burning 400-500 calories. Tuesday and Thursday is strength-training for 1 hour with no calorie goal because I haven't really figured out how to measure it. Also, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I have a potential 30 minutes I can add and go to the gym in the afternoons to do a little extra.
Unfortunately, this week is Easter weekend, so I will have no school on Friday. I'm going home and that means figuring out some way to get the hour in. The articles I have been reading recommend 7 hours a week of workout, so I'm still working out how to do things. I will write back with how this week has gone and the results.
